Blessed with world-famous natural beauty and a rich cultural and historic heritage, the city of Cape Town has long been a popular tourist and travel destination. The beaches are spectacular, the opportunities for epic outdoor adventures are endless and cultural activities abound.
Besides all of this, another major highlight of any trip to Cape Town would have to be the abundance of world-class restaurants, cafes and eateries. In fact, the city of Cape Town boasts so many amazing places to eat it’s sometimes hard to choose where to go.
We’ve therefore narrowed down a list of 5 of our favourite restaurants that are all within a short walking distance from the Daddy Long Legs self-catering apartments, situated at 263 Long Street.
If you love the fragrant and flavoursome cuisine of Ethiopia, or if you’ve never tried Ethiopian food and would like to taste it for yourself, then Lucy (at 281 Long Street) is an absolute must.
Authentic Ethiopian cuisine is prepared and served the traditional way, with an inviting and warm-hearted vibe to match.
Who doesn’t love dim sum? The traditional style of Chinese cuisine offers a tantalising variety of flavours and textures, all packaged in beautiful bite-sized portions.
For perfect-every-time dim sum there’s South China Dim Sum, located at 289 Long Street. The intimate eatery creates a cosy ambience that makes for a perfect spot to grab some night-time eats.
You don’t need to be a vegan to enjoy this 100% plant-based restaurant and café, which you’ll find on Buiten Street, in between Loop and Long. It’s only a couple of minutes’ (metres) walk from the apartments.
Every item off the delicious menu is vegan and prepared by hand and with love. A range of delectable sweet treats (like the koeksisters in the above picture) and regular special menu items always impress.
This burger joint is (literally) a couple of steps from the apartments. We’re actually neighbours!
The burgers here are always a winner the milkshakes never disappoint.
The menu is extensive and caters to pretty much any dietary requirement and personal taste. Loads of vegetarian and vegan options available too.
For a somewhat different dining experience try Galbi, a Korean Barbecue fusion restaurant that’s tucked away inside a centre in between Long and Loop street, behind Laundry on Long and Jo’burg (the bar).
Diners can braai (barbecue) their own meat on a grill at their table with a couple of unique South African elements thrown in. Plus an array of traditional Korean ingredients, foods, condiments and drinks are available.
When enjoying the memorable experience of eating at Galbi, remember this: Everything tastes better when shared!
